Ina-Yoko Teutenberg took the Yellow Leader’s Jersey at the Exergy Tour on Friday after a tough and exciting Stage One in Nampa Idaho.
Teutenberg took second place in the sprint but was able to move into the lead after her fourth place in the previous day’s prologue.
Exergy 2012′s Theresa Cliff-Ryan won the sprint to take the stage victory.
“It was hard out there today,” said Teutenberg. “A lot happened and the team had to work really hard most of the day. I’m disappointed I couldn’t finish off with a stage win after all their hard work but it’s nice to have the yellow jersey.”
The team now has Teutenberg in yellow and also leading the sprint jersey whilst teammate Evelyn Stevens holds the mountain jersey going into stage 2.
“The girls were great today,” said the teams Sport Director Ronny Lauke. “They made the race hard and it was fun to see. We have five girls in the top ten going into tomorrow time trial so it’s going to be an exciting day.
“Its been a great race so far and with the TT tomorrow, the mountain stage on Saturday and a hard circuit race on Monday so much more can happen. We’re looking forward to the action ahead.”
